Traffic

The Speeding and Traffic Management action group are looking at ways in which road safety and the village environment may be improved through the introduction of better road management techniques in the villages.

Objectives

To make the villages a safer place for pedestrians and motorists. This to be achieved by consultation with local groups and authorities, and advanced by public consultation, both by public meetings and questionnaires.

Action Plan

  • Arrange team meetings to refine results from public meetings
  • Meet appropriate people in BCC and WDC
  • Research solutions
  • Come up with proposals
  • Present to BCC and other as appropriate
  • Follow through with evidence.

Current Activities

  • Active participation in the speed limit review (see here)
  • Monitoring the proposed closure of Junction 5 in 2008 (see here)
  • Improved signage to the A40 / M40 Junction 5 road layout which has reduced the accident rate
  • Participation in the Chiltern M40 Environmental Group who are seeking to improve safety of the M40 through our area and reduce the noise nuisance (see here)
  • If you have a particular problem concerning traffic, you can join the group or express your views using the Contact Us button (left).

Studley Green Crossing after

Before and After views at Studley Green showing the new refuge island which we campaigned for to improve pedestrian safety and hopefully reduce traffic speed at this junction

Marlow Road Crossing

We have also actively campainged for the new pedestrian crossing in Marlow Road

MarlowWycombe Rd junction

We are also campaigning for the “squaring off” of the A40/Marlow Road junction to improve safety and traffic flow. Bucks County Council recently completed a Road Safety Assessment which unfortunately came out with a rejection of the proposed alterations - which were purely changes to the painted lines!

Its conclusion was that it would be dangerous for pedestrians crossing at the junction (as if it was not dangerous at the moment). The Council has put in a plan for a re-formed junction including a refuge island, but currently cannot promise whether it will be in this year’s budget (2006-07).
